Summary

Above The Tie razors are known for their quality craftsmanship and it could be the last razor you ever need to buy with it’s high-grade stainless steel build.

Looking for a quality stainless steel safety razor that stands out from the crowd and will last you a lifetime? This is our Above The Tie Razor Review of their stainless-steel safety razors.

Above The Tie Razors may be just what you need.

They are doing things a little different than most of the other safety razor companies out there and their customers seem to love it.

Who is Above The Tie?

Above The Tie is an online store operating out of Tennessee.

While they sell other popular brands wet shaving supplies, they also have their own line of safety razors and shaving soaps.

They also sell vintage and replated razors as well so their inventory is always changing.

However, for their own stainless steel safety razors, they let you piece together your own razor by offering four different handles and eight different base plates.

32 different combinations to fit your own personal style and needs, you should definitely be able to find something that works for you.

However, you will pay for this quality but the 303 stainless steel should resist corrosion for many, many years.

Above The Tie Razor Review – Heads

Ok so as we mentioned there are 8 different base plates for the safety razors, four different styles with either an open comb or closed comb noted by a 1 (closed) or 2 (open).

They all weigh about the same the difference comes in the blade gap which affects their aggressiveness.

  • M1/M2 .25mm or .01 inches (straight bar)
  • R1/R2 .58mm or .023 inches (straight bar)
  • S1/S2 .61mm or .024 inches (slant bar)
  • H1/H2 .91mm or .036 inches (straight bar)

As you can see they offer a wide range of gaps so if you know your preferred level of aggressiveness you can pick the right base plate for your setup.

The open combs (2) will be more aggressive than the closed comb heads.

Handles from Above The Tie Razors

The awesome thing about the way Above The Tie is selling their safety razors is you can completely customize the level of aggressiveness.

The handles also play into this by their added weight. If you pick a heavier handle it will add to the aggressiveness of the base plate you chose since you will let the razor do the work when shaving.

For example, the next level head is too aggressive for you simply add a heavier handle to increase its level of aggressiveness.

  • Atlas 3 inches & 56 grams
  • Bamboo 3.5 inches long & 56 grams
  • Kronos 3.5 inches & 71 grams
  • Colossus 4 inches & 86 grams

As you can see they increase in uniform ½ inch increments and 15-gram weight increments except for the Bamboo which has its own unique style with a matte finish.

Above The Tie also offers a pretty sweet return policy on their stainless-steel safety razors.

If you return the razor in its original packaging within 30 days you can get a full refund.

Or…

You can keep just part of the razor (handle, base plate, cap) for a partial refund or you can exchange it for a different part.

So, say you order an R2 with the Atlas handle and it’s not quite as aggressive as you wanted, exchange the handle for a Kronos or the R2 for the S2.

How to Find Your Perfect Setup From ATT

Well your own wants and needs will determine which base plate and handles you choose.

Amazon actually makes it pretty easy to find what you are looking for in these razors.

Personally, we think the easiest way is to search by the Handle

Atlas

Bamboo

Kronos

Colossus

However, you can also search by base plate:

M1 M2

R1 R2

S1 S2

H1 H2

These don’t have as many reviews as other popular safety razors probably because of the price.

However, these are the types of razors that you can pass down to your son and it will most likely last for his lifetime as well as long as you keep it clean and cared for.

You will see guys talking about the quality of the craftsmanship, design, finish and more in their reviews.

Above The Tie Razor Review Conclusion

If you decide to purchase an Above The Tie Razor you will need to look at it as a long-term investment.

It definitely costs more than most safety razors but again, this will last you a long time and you generally get what you pay for.

There is also the 30-day guarantee so if it doesn’t suit you, simply return it!
