Best Place to Buy: Bevel’s Website

The Bevel shave system has been increasing its popularity over the last couple years. In this Bevel Razor review, we are going to show you what all of the fuss is about.

It was created to help reduce and possible eliminate razor bumps for those of you with thick or curly hair.

Whether you are looking to be a part of the shave system monthly subscription or just need some quality products they will have you covered.

Who is Bevel?

Bevel is owned by Walker & Company, founded by Tristan walker.

They build health and beauty products with an intense focus on their customers.

Tristan started the company as a need for a better product.

He was always getting razor bumps after shaving so he attempts to improve that with his shave system.

You will even see a review from the famous artist, Nas, on the reviews section! He is also an investor in the company.

In a recent NY times article you can get a feel for Tristan’s passion for his business.

He truly wants to make a difference with products like the Bevel shave system.

You can certainly appreciate is hustle as well as you can see he has been interviewed by all of the big news outlets  as he was able to raise $24 million for his company.

What Is the Bevel Shave System Subscription?

OK so by now you have seen the dollar shave clubs and their funny videos that gained everyone’s attention.

In our Bevel razor review we found the  Shave System is similar to that.

The shave system is a monthly subscription service and for $29.95 a month you will get:

  • The Bevel Safety Razor*
  • The Bevel Badger Shaving Brush*
  • 60 razor blades
  • Pre-shave priming oil
  • Shaving cream
  • Restoring Balm

You only get the safety razor and shaving brush on the first delivery. But after the third month you get a new monthly supply of blades, oil, cream, the restoring balm and 20 blades

If you don’t want to opt into the monthly subscription you can buy the same starter kit for $89.95. However it only comes with a one month supply of the extras vs. a three-month supply with the subscription.

This kit only comes with one month supplies of the oil, cream and restoring balm.

You can also cancel at any time. So if you don’t have $90 to fork out this is a great way to finance your way into wet shaving. You can split the payments up over three months.

Just make sure you cancel the subscription before your fourth payment.

They also have a 30-day money back guarantee. So, you could try this for a couple weeks and if you decide it was not worth your money you can contact support to get a return authorization.

You will have to send everything back and pay for the return shipping but other than that you can get your refund.

There have been some reports of this being a somewhat difficult process to get in touch with support. While other reviewers on Amazon had great things to say about support.

So, we recommend only giving yourself 10 days to decide if you are going to return the product, that gives you a full 20 days to play phone tag with support and get the items shipped back.

Who Would The Bevel Shave System Be Good For?

As you know from our article on irritation, razor bumps are prevalent in men with course or curly hair which happen to affect up to 60% of African Americans.

We found in our Bevel razor review, the Bevel shave system would be good for anyone who suffers from razor bumps on a regular basis.

Razor bumps are cause with the hair is cut below the skin’s surface and it curls back into the skin with a sharp edge, causing inflammation.

The Bevel shave system would also be good for anyone who is just looking for a better shave. Somone that currently uses the typical disposable cartridge razor.

Look how easy the system is for this first time user. He is probably using longer strokes than he should but you can see he is clean shaven after his second pass.

How Does Your Hair Get Cut Under The Skin?

This happens frequently when you use a multi-blade disposable cartridge razor.

The first blade or two pulls and tugs on the hair lifting it. While the last few blades cut the hair in an area that is normally below the surface.

With all of the money that the power house brands like Gillette put behind their marketing it would be easy to think that is the only option out there.

However, wet shaving is risen in popularity recently and Bevel puts a modern spin on the classic double edge safety razor.

A safety razor only uses on blade so it does not cut below the skins surface.

You can still get irritation with a safety razor if you do multiple passes or shave against the grain of your beard hair.

However, when used properly with a quality pre-shave oil and shaving soap, it is known to drastically reduce skin irritation (razor bumps).

Here is a nice video explaining the entire Bevel shave system

Bevel Razor Review Comparison

The Bevel Safety Razor definitely has a more modern look compared to some of the more popular safety razor brands like Merkur or Parker.

It is a solid weighted brass frame that is chrome plated.

It has a three-piece screw off type closed comb straight bar head on it.

This will be great for beginners and those with sensitive skin. The guide bars make changing the blades super easy. The closed comb heads are less aggressive than open tooth combs.

The head also has a mild profile which will allow you go get under your nose easily compare to some other larger heads.

The handle has more of a matte finish which will help you grip it while shaving. The length which will be good if you have slightly larger hands.

How Does The Bevel Shaving Brush Compare To Others?

Bevel uses real badger hair for their shaving brush which is considered the best by many.

The stiffness not only allows you to apply your shaving cream easily to your face it also exfoliates your skin and lifts the hairs in preparation for your shave.

The exfoliation is nice because it removes any excess dead skin cells that can just cause your razor to get clogged.

If you use circular motions with the brush with the last stroke always being up or against your grain this will lift your hairs off the skin allowing more hair to be cut with the first pass.

You may also want to wash your brush a few times with warm soapy water as the brush can sometimes still have badger odor when it arrives.

You may also notice a few hairs shedding in the beginning during the break in period, this is normal and should discontinue after a short while.

What Is The Difference Between The Bevel Starter Kit And The Subscription?

As we mentioned before in this Bevel razor review, the main difference is you get the subscription you get larger containers of the accessories 3.4 oz. vs 2 oz. bottles and more blades.

You can also find both of these kits on Amazon, however the larger kit is about $25 more so if you do get the subscription through Bevel’s website you will save some money.

Also, you can cancel the subscription after the third payment with no penalty so if you are thinking about getting the larger pack you might as well do it through the subscription to save money and cancel if you need to.

What Is In The Bevel Priming Oil?

The priming oil is very similar to other pre-shave oils you will find out there. It only contains seven ingredients:

  • Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil
  • Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil
  • Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
  • Hydrogenated Castor Oil
  • Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax
  • Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil
  • Menthol

It is always nice to have a more natural product.

So many products these days have so many chemicals in them you really have no idea what you are getting.

Pre-shave oil is great to use when wet shaving. It acts as an extra layer of lubricant to help the razor slide effortlessly over your skin.

Why does this matter?

You guessed it, it helps reduce irritation.

It is also a nice moisturizer, you could even use it instead of the restoring balm if you wanted to.

You only need a few drops, simply massage it into your beard and allow it to soak in for a minute or two.

This will soften your hair and make them easier to cut as well.

How To Use The Bevel Shaving Cream

The Bevel Shaving Cream is to be used with the included shaving brush.

You can use a mug to create your lather or you can create the lather straight on your face.

It is recommended to soak your brush in warm water for a minute then apply a small amount of the cream on to the brush.

Using strong circular motions work the cream onto your face, you will notice a nice lather forming.

When you have completely painted your face, you are ready to shave.

Don’t rinse your brush just yet in case you want to do a second pass you can quickly apply some more shaving cream just like in the first timer’s video above.

The shaving cream goes right over the priming oil giving you even more protection and lubrication for a smooth shave.

Bevel Razor Review – Other Opinions

The Bevel shaving kit is boasting a 4.2-star rating on Amazon.

Many customers are confirming the claims of Bevel that they are seeing reduced irritation and razor bumps.

After switching from disposables many reviewers claim they will never go back after using the Bevel shave system.

Some men with bad issues with razor bumps can usually only use electric razors or just don’t shave that often. The Bevel shave system is complete and gives them everything they need to reduce, if not eliminate the razor bumps.

Is It Bevel Worth The Price?

The only few 1 & 2 star reviews on Amazon talk about the price. However, you usually get what you pay for so anything of quality will cost a little more.

If you go to Amazon and try to get a razor, shaving brush, oil, shaving cream and an after-shave lotion you might be able to find it all for same price but you may also have to piece together products from different brands.

You may not need all of the extras to get a better shave and reduce your irritation. You may simply just need to switch to a safety razor.

However, every person’s skin and beards are different so it is hard to say how well this will work for the masses.

But if you follow the instructions and use each item in this package you can almost certainly expect to have better looking and feeling skin if you were just using disposable cartridge razors with aerosol shaving cream.

If you have never used a safety razor before this could be a great way to get your feet wet, especially because of the return and cancellation policies.

You can also purchase the items individually if you don’t want to get the whole kit.

Bevel Razor Review Conclusion

If you are looking for a quality shaving system that also offers the convenience of not having to go to the store or remember to buy supplies the Bevel kit could be the way to go.

All of the items we mentioned in this Bevel razor review are geared towards fighting skin irritation and razor bumps.

Sure, you can definitely reduce irritation by switching to any safety razor but you will be hard pressed to find a more complete system.

In the end, everyone’s wants and needs are different so it will be up to you to make the final decision.
