Long Tail Pro Review – Live Example

I have had a few people ask about the tools I use to help make this blog successful. So, here is my Long Tail Pro Review.

Besides, Wealthy Affiliate, there is one other tool that is critical to doing keyword research which allows me to create the right content for the right readers, Long Tail Pro.

While I am still relatively new as an online marketer I just thought, I would share my experience with anyone who might be on the fence about whether or not to purchase this powerful software.

What Is Long Tail Pro?

LTP is sophisticated keyword research software that allows you to analyze your potential list of keywords that you want to write about.

When I first started using LTP they only had a desktop version which was still nice but it was slow and you had to manually click on keywords to calculate their KC score.

The Keyword Competitiveness Score is basically their way of showing you how competitive a keyword is.

Factors include items like:

  • Backlinks
  • Site age
  • Number of indexed URL’s
  • Length of Domain
  • Trust Flow & Citation Flow from Majestic (they used to use Moz)

When they switched to Majestic data they were able to incorporate much more backlink information which helps you analyze your competition.

Ease of Use

The new cloud version of LTP is very easy to use. Simply add a name for your new project, enter some seed keywords, define your search criteria and click the green button!

You can also paste in your own list of keywords from excel if you have already done research.

Give it a few minutes to do its thing and then you will have a list of fresh keyword ideas that it pulls from Google’s AdWords Keyword planner tool.

You can even add your domain to a project which will give you your trust flow, citation flow and number of referring domains.  It will also give you a target KC that you are likely to rank for.

After your list populates, you can sort all of the words by:

  • Alphabetical
  • Search volume
  • Suggested AdWords bid
  • Number of words
  • Rank value
  • KC score

You can also use filters to include or exclude keywords by any of these metrics.

I like to sort by KC score in descending order, since my site is still relatively new I like to go for anything under 30.

Usually the lower KC scores have lower traffic but that is OK with me because it is more targeted traffic and you will get higher conversions.

If you can find them under 20 that is even better.

As I’m going down the list I star the ones that interest me before drilling down into any given keyword. This allows me to quickly create a list of potential keywords to target.

Then I head over to the favorites to dig deeper into these lists of keywords.

When you click on the blue link for the key word it will display the competition analysis.

This is the top 10 results in Google for that particular keyword with all of the metrics used to calculate the KC score displayed.

This really allows you to identify potential weak sites in the top 10.

I usually look for newer sites that don’t have many backlinks and actually visit those sites.

Get a feel for their post and try to find ways you can write a better one.

This tactic has really worked well for me and allowed me to get many articles on the first page of SERPs.

You can also export any of the lists you create to excel but with online access from anywhere I don’t find it necessary.

What Are The Cons of Long Tail Pro?

The biggest downfall is the cost but you get what you pay for.

Yes, Google has a free keyword research tool that gives you ideas but it doesn’t give you much about the competition.

Of course, you could manually check each keyword but that would take way too long.

When I first signed up for the free trial of LTP I had only made my first couple dollars in commission sales.

I was very wary of spending more money on something I wasn’t sure if I needed.

However, one of the first things I noticed is a few of the keywords that I was targeting before that I thought would be good were highly competitive. No wonder I wasn’t getting any traffic.

After a few hours of research, I was finding lower competition keywords that had higher search volume, a true win-win situation.

I decided to fork over the money and I’m glad I did.

Had I not seen some early successes I could have easily thrown in the towel with my online adventure.

However, now, a few months after beginning to use LTP I’m really starting to see the results.

Long Tail Pro Vs. Jaaxy

As I mentioned earlier when I first started my online adventure I was using a keyword research platform called Jaaxy. Both of these programs offer free trials so you could see which one you like better.

Jaaxy’s main way of analyzing competition is by quoted search results or QSR.

Which is basically typing in a keyword in google with quotation marks around it “keyword”.

This shows you how many sites have that exact phrase in it.

The problem I had with this is that you still had to manually go to Google and make sure you weren’t going to compete against huge sites like Amazon, Wal Mart or other big sites.

Now if you are first starting out, all of the data LTP provides may be confusing and overwhelming so Jaaxy could be great for beginners.

Jaaxy does have some other neat features like an Alphabet Soup automation and rank checkers.

However, after a couple months something told me to give LTP a try and it was well worth the switch.

Results Speak For Themselves

As you can see before I started using LTP my organic traffic would trickle in. It was hard to get motivated to keep producing content.

Giving Long Tail Pro a try was the spark that I need to keep going.

Now I am able to find better keywords that I am more likely to rank for and many of them have higher search volume.

Needless to say, this has led to more consistent sales for me as well and LTP has already paid for itself.

Is It Right For You?

If you still aren’t sure if this software is right for you can always sign up for the long tail pro free trial.

There are several other programs out there I just happened to stumble upon LTP and found that it really worked well for what I needed.

If you sign up and have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them.
