Shaving While Traveling – 5 Mistakes You Should Avoid

Traveling is a time to say goodbye to your daily routine and enjoy new sights and sounds. However, you have some habits that you need to keep up. Chief among them is shaving.

If you aren’t looking to grow your hair out, you need to have quality shaving supplies that you bring with you. Here are five shaving mistakes you should avoid while traveling.

1. Not having proper cases

You need to have the right method of traveling with your shaving supplies. Between razors, chargers, shaving cream and aftershave, there can be quite a bit to keep track of.

If you toss everything in a suitcase, it can become scattered and easy to lose. Then, you might have to bear the expense of replacing it, which certainly isn’t fun.

You must always carry a razor travel case. It doesn’t need to be anything particularly extravagant. It can just be a simple case. Make sure that whichever one you choose is one that is either designed for shaving or is suitable. It should be lightweight, portable,

and have pockets that make it easy for you to store the different components of your shaving process.

2. Not having a backup

Do you have a dependable razor that never fails you? Well, you might think that it will be perfect when traveling. However, there’s always going to be setbacks that you should prepare yourself for.

Imagine using your beloved razor, only to have it die unexpectedly halfway through a shave.

To counter this, you should have a backup supply of razors. Look for ones that are affordable but also efficient. If you have an old standard that you swear by, you should bring it.

Just make sure that you’re willing to prepare yourself for it falling short.

3. Not considering the climate

Are you going for a tropical getaway to escape from the cold of winter? That’s wonderful, but you also need to keep in mind how the temperature differences could affect your skin.

Your skin adapts readily to the climate it’s used to. So, switching between two (relative) extremes could really be overwhelming.

Why is this important for your shaving? Because how your skin feels affects how your shave is. If your skin is dried out, it’s going to be much for difficult for you to shave smoothly.

Make sure that you properly moisturize your skin so that you don’t have to deal with a harsh and difficult shave.

4. Airport Ignorance

If you’re traveling via car, you don’t have much to keep in mind with your shaving supplies (aside from making sure you have them all). However, if you’re flying, you need to keep things in mind.

There are many things which are restricted or prohibited by airlines, and shaving supplies are included.

Razors will not be permitted on flights. You need to make sure they are properly stored in checked luggage. Shaving cream and aftershave, if brought on board, will need to be in the proper travel size quantities.

You might not want to deal with checking luggage, but it will be necessary. If you are found with razors and other shaving supplies at security, you could be heavily interrogated and cause delays for numerous passengers.

That’s certainly a high price to pay for what you might’ve intended as a convenience.

5. Not Shaving Regularly

When you’re traveling, you want to relax. You might put things like answering emails by the wayside, which is fine. After all, it’s your time to unwind and get away from your

routine. However, you might also feel the urge to put basic hygiene by the wayside. It won’t be the end of the world if you miss brushing your teeth, showering, or shaving, but it’s not ideal.

Make sure that you have your shaving supplies out in the bathroom as soon as you’re settled in. It’s easy to forget about these kinds of things if you keep them out of site.

By placing your shaving bag on the sink, you immediately remind yourself of how important they are to you. When you wake up, you’ll likely see the supplies and do it like you do every day at home.

Even better, when you come home, you won’t have to readjust. Coming back from vacation is difficult because of how many routines have been forgotten.

You can make your transition all the easier by keeping up essential activities like shaving. Plus, you can come back from vacation looking as sharp as possible.

Shaving is a habit that you need to keep up, but it’s also a craft. There’s an art to shaving, not only in how you use your razor, but also planning.

By preparing properly for shaving while traveling, you can have a much better overall experience away from home.
