Description of VIKINGS BLADE Luxury Badger Brush
Vikings Blade Luxury Badger Brush might not be considered the best shaving brush around but it definitely packs a lot of value. It is currently selling for less than $30 on Amazon and has a fairly high rating with over 120 reviews.
They use “Best” grade badger hair in this brush which is a step up from pure but is not quite silvertip like the Parker brush we recently reviewed. So, while this will still have a high water retention to give you a nice lather it won’t hold as much water as the silvertip brushes.
This may or may not be a big deal for you. If you want only the best for your shave this might not be the brush for you but if you want to save a few bucks and not lose that much on quality you may want to give the Vikings Blade brush a shot.
Like any real badger brush there is a break in period where the brush will shed a few of its hairs. You may want to consider washing the brush a couple times with some shampoo before your first use to speed up this process and eliminate in badger odor.
Vikings used a heavier base in this brush to give you a more manly, sturdy feel when using. The base is made with obsidian black acrylic. They claim 100% pure manliness is what you get with this brush!
This has a little bit of a larger knot at 28mm and an average loft of around 50mm. Since the knot is on the larger size they probably used more hair and it might feel more firm on your face. Vikings also cut the hairs which can make them more stiff which is better for not holding onto the lather when you are trying to transfer it to your face. However, since they used the Best grade it will still have a somewhat soft feel to it.
It does not come with a stand like other brushes so if you want your brush to last for a while you may want to pick up a stand to go with it. Hanging your brush to dry will increase the life of your shaving brush.
There are many happy customers who purchased this product, you can read the reviews yourself. Many of them talk about the quality that the materials used in this brush present. They even compare it to more expensive shaving brushes as having similar quality but only being a fraction of the price.
As always when you are shopping online, please do your homework. There are tons of reviews and information everywhere so make sure you spend a few minutes before making an impulse decision.
This is a really nice brush! It sure does look like luxury as well, and this is more affordable for me. I’ll probably go ahead and try this one out.
I was looking for one of these because my dad had a similar one when I was growing up. As a matter of fact, he still has it, nearly 20 years later! I’m looking to start my own history with my new Vikings blade luxury badger brush. Thank for this review.
You’re welcome Jonathan! It’s awesome to know that your dad’s shaving brush lasted almost 20 years, that is quality my friend.
You did a great job with this review. I am happy to say all my questions about this brush were answered here. I do however have some other questions about shaving brushes in general. I have been looking into getting one for awhile now, but I’m curious what are the pros of using one. Does it prepare the skin for a shave? Is it instrumental in lifting your facial hair at all? Any answers you could provide would be great thank you!
Hey John,
Great questions, I can confidently say yes to both of them! In my post where I compare the top 5 shaving brushes I actually go into more detail.
However, yes the badger hair shaving brushes are great for prepping your skin for a shave. It exfoliates it while you apply your shaving cream. Then if your last stroke is up, it will lift the hairs so they are ready to be cut by your blade.
Hope this helps!
Hi Jeremy,
Also what a coincidence as I could do with a shave! lol The vikings blade brush looks pretty cool and very masculine which is so needed in today’s society.
I actually don’t own a brush so will probably need to get one in the future. Never really used a brush before but have thought about getting one a few times.
Hey Trevor,
Shaving brushes are coming back in style with wet shaving since you can save a lot of money vs. buying cartridge razors. People are also starting to get away from the aerosol cans to a more natural shaving cream.
Let me know if you decide to give it a try!
Ooh, that looks nice. To be honest, I’ve never considered getting one until just recently. I’ve signed up for Men’s shaving club, where I get four quality razor blades each month. For the last few months, I’ve been enjoying quality shaving products for myself. I’m going to check this brush out, thank you for your review on it. It does look nice.
Anytime Nate! Let me know what you think if you decide to get it. Once you start using a shaving brush you will quickly see why they are coming back in style.
Hello Jeremy
Interesting article on the shaving brush, you know I have never used a shaving brush and am very interested in how you use one the proper way?
Do you need special shaving cream for this brush or do you use any shaving cream on the market?
Love to know more about this product
Hello Jeffrey,
You don’t need a special shaving cream but I would say these are not really meant for aerosol shaving creams.
There are many soaps and creams that you can buy that require a brush to get a nice lather which is where this Vikings blade comes into play.

My husband has been looking for a brush to help with his shaving needs for awhile, and this review has helped me find some options for him to choose from.
He is very particular about what goes on his face and it helps to read about products from a man’ s point of view about the brush, as not all brushes are the same.
Thank you from a female who does not understand everything about men’s shaving and products.
Kelly
You’re welcome Kelly, I hope you are able to find a good brush for your husband. I’m sure he will enjoy using it on his face before his shave.
One of the best designed brushes I have seen so far
Thanks Jeremy for providing a well researched premium quality product. I need to invest in a better brush because the skin around my chin is super sensitive and gets irritated very easily.
The material on low quality brushes causes my skin to break out in shaving bumps. Is this brush suitable for sensitive skin?
Hello Jay,
It is hard to say, do you know what material your other brushes are made of? I’m wondering if they are synthetic and that is what is causing the issue.
This is made with all badger hair, it is not silvertip grade but is “best”.
I would think it could be more of the razor you are using and less of the brush.
Hope that helps!
I’m in LOVE with obsidian stuff and it definetely is something that I would like to have. It’s a fact that some people, especially at 21st century, buy badger brushes and straight razors because of their love for retro items. I’m one of them.
Because I like to shave LIKE A MAN. Not some new age Mach 3 stuff. This one is hell of an item with Swedish steel alloy base and I’ll be thinking of buying it.
That’s awesome Tyler, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Let me know how you like the brush if you end up getting one!
