Today we are going to help you find the men’s best electric shaver for sensitive skin!
Razor bumps, redness and itching…the classic issues with sensitive skin. One of the number on things you can do to prevent skin irritation after a shave is to use the right equipment.
Let’s face it, you might have to spend a little more on your razor than others with tougher skin but how much time do you want to spend treating your skin after your shave?
They say time is money so if buying a quality razor saves you time it should pay for itself. Finding a good electric shaver is not rocket science.
All of the razors mentioned below would do just fine, it is up to you however, to figure out which features you want to pay for.
If you want to get technical, razor bumps is a medical condition known as Pseudofollicultis Barbae.
While that term sounds pretty fancy it’s actually a pretty simple concept. When you shave your hair down close the skin the follicle curls over on itself and grows back into the skin until it is long enough to slide over the skin.
Your body’s natural reaction is to treat this like an attack and therefore producing the inflammation we call razor bumps.
Men with curly hair experience this issue more frequently and up to 60% of African Americans will experience this.
If not treated, it can cause scarring overtime so if you have a bad case of this you will want to do what you can to limit and reduce the frequency of the razor bump reaction.
Anti-inflammatory treatments – You can use aloe vera gel, apple cider vinegar or baking soda paste to treat razor bumps. Simply mix some baking soda with water or rub the aloe right on to your irritated skin.
Let your skin soak for a few minutes with either treatment and then rinse with water. Repeat several times a day as necessary.
Ice. Ice or a cold compress will provide instant relieve to your irritation. Inflammation is caused by increased blood flow to the area so ice will slow that down and help reduce the inflammation as well.
Antibacterial creams. These will keep your skin moisturized as well as provide relieve to the irritation. You can even find these with pain medication which would provide even more relief.
The only way to 100% prevent razor burn is to let your beard grow out, the longer it gets the farther away from the skin it will get and not curl back on itself. However, if you are here that means you are probably looking to shave!
Well, the second best thing you can do to reduce irritation is to use electric shavers for sensitive skin. While they do cut close, they do not cut as close as a safety razor which will help reduce irritation. They will also not sharpen the hair as much as a safety razor so it will not dig as much into your skin.
Another tip would be to shave every other day instead of every day. This reduces irritation and let’s your hair grow for a day in between shaves.
Keep the heads on your electric razor sharp! As soon as they begin to dull, replace them. You to do not want them pulling or pinching your hair, this will only increase the irritation on your skin.
Go slow. Most of the razors below allow you to adjust the speed or power, if you have sensitive skin you will definitely want to take advantage of this feature. The increased power can be harsh on your skin.
Go with the grain. While going against the grain will give you a closer shave if you want to save your skin you should shave with the direction of your hair. This will help reduce the risk of the razor grabbing your hair and therefore reducing irritation.
Look for an electric shaver that doesn’t use alcohol or high amounts of detergent in its cleaning system. These ingredients are known to irritate the skin, especially if you have pre-existing razor bumps.
Use lotion or aftershave. If your skin is dry look for an alcohol free lotion that will help keep your skin moisturized and prevent even more redness or irritation.
You may also try a nice pre-shave oil to help reduce your skin irritation. Many men who wet shave use this but who’s to say you can’t use it with your electric razor? It should be fine if it has wet & dry shaving abilities. It will provide a nice layer of lubrication to help the razor slide more comfortably.
If you follow these tips you should see a reduced level of irritation or razor bumps.
It doesn’t have as much power as some of the other razors but its intelligent sonic technology will help lift more hairs into the blade with each stroke.
