The Mühle R106 is a top rated double edge safety razor that will give you a close shave that lasts throughout the day.
Mühle is known for its quality that will last for many years to come.
Based out of Germany, they have been engineering fine razors since the 1940’s and they are better than ever.

What Are The Features Of The Mühle R106?
The R106 is a great daily shaver with moderate aggression that is similar to their R89. It has a total length of about 3.7 inches and weighs in just over 2.25 ounces.
This gives the razor a moderate weight and length, not too short or too light.
However, some wet shavers prefer additional weight as it helps allow the razor to do the work when shaving.
If you like something heavier you could go for the R89 Grande or one of the heavier Merkur models.
It comes with their closed comb screw off head. Which is less aggressive than the open tooth comb on the R41.
The closed comb means there is more metal between your skin and the blade. So it won’t cut as much on the first pass but it will also be more forgiving than the open tooth comb.
The three-piece design also makes changing the blade worry free.
The blade should line up perfectly each time without you having to check the angle which makes it great for beginners.
The R106 comes with a black resin handle with chrome accents.
This gives the razor a classic look. However, don’t worry, you will still be able to have a firm grip on this handle when shaving. Just like with the textured chrome handles.
Who Is The Mühle R106 Good For?
Unlike the aggressive R41, this could be a great first razor or a nice addition to your lineup if you have already been wet shaving for a while.
The closed comb head will take a little while to get used to if you are switching from electric shavers or disposable cartridge razors.
However, it will be worth learning the craft as you should experience less irritation and end up paying less money in the long run.
One customer even mentioned how they use this razor in the shower. However, we do not recommend that for beginners.
The comb has a lower profile which will help you get hard to reach places like under your nose with ease.
Also, be sure to rinse and completely dry your razor after each use to keep it in top condition over the years.
When Should You Choose The Mühle R106 vs R89?
If you like a longer handle and a little more weight than the R89 Grande might be a good choice for you as it has a similar comb as the R106.
So, the R106 may give better control but the R89 should require no pressure when shaving.
It also comes with a textured chrome handle if that makes a difference to you however it should not affect the performance of the razor.
Why Switch To Wet Shaving?
As we mentioned earlier you will get a better shave and spend less money when switching to a DE safety razor like the Mühle R106.
To be clear, wet shaving is not for those of you in a hurry, you must take the time to prep your face for the shave.
Taking a hot shower, using a nice badger hair shaving brush and a decent pre-shave oil will help you get one of the best shaves you have ever had.
Remember to use short, slow strokes with the grain on your first pass. If you feel like a second pass is necessary, just remember this could cause some irritation if you cut the hair too short.
Where Should You Buy This Mühle R106?
If you are shopping online, you will probably want to check Amazon. They normally have the best price and offer free shipping. Which always seems to arrive before the estimated delivery date.
There are also plenty of customer reviews.
Plus, they recently started tagging the reviews as ‘verified purchase’. So you know if they are from real customers instead of those who received a free product in exchange for a 5-star review.
This razor doesn’t have as many reviews as some of the Parker models, however it is probably because it is slightly more expensive.
Those who are new to wet shaving probably opt for the cheaper models. But you usually get what you pay for so be careful.

Conclusion
Paying a few more bucks for the R106 may save you money and frustration down the road. What you are really paying for is Mühle’s seven plus decades of experience.
To reiterate, the closed comb on this safety razor could make it a great first razor. It could also be a great gift for someone who is looking to make the switch.
While you are at more of a risk for cuts and nicks, you should not fear the double-edged safety razor. Just take your time and be smart, you can figure out how to use one of these just like they did 100 years ago.
If you need more advice there are plenty of forums online to ask questions or read tutorials.

Hey Jeremy great review. This type of razor as you mentioned reminded me of the one my father used to use. It seem like he would use that razor for days without changing the blade.
I have never personally used this type of razor before. It does have an appealing look to it.
I am a man that shaves at least twice maybe three times a week. I also shave my head as well. I used a five blade disposal cartridge razor.
How will this type of blade will be effective with my face and head. How often will I need to change this blade? With my five cartridge I have to change it after three uses.
What is the proper way to care for this razor and does this blade rust fast?

Hey there,
Great questions, most guys feel that switching to a double edge safety razor improves their shave, even on their head, versus using a multi-blade cartridge razor. There is less skin irritation based on how they are designed.
The blades are cheap but effective and you can usually get 3-5 shaves per blade depending on how coarse your beard is. They are made of stainless steel and should not rust easily.
Instead of paying $4-5 per blade you will pay $.10-.20.
I hope that helps!

That was a good one on Mühle’s R106. Sounds like its gonna be great to have. Personally, though I like using shaving cream instead. And it does work for me. You know about any health implications of this? I will give the Mühle’s R106 a try though. Thanks for the great info.
