In our Parker 22R Review we find they do it again with a unique looking safety razor. You won’t find any other razor with a handle that looks like this one.
Having over four decades of experience, it is no wonder the 22R is quickly gaining popularity on Amazon.
Who Would Benefit From The Parker 22R?
Anyone who is looking to save money and get a decent shaver would benefit from the Parker 22R. When you use disposable cartridge razor from big name brands like Gillette you can end up spending over $20 per month on refills.
When you switch to a DE safety razor you drop that cost down to about $.50! Plus, the cartridge razors can pull on your hair which causes them to cut below the skin surface. This is the main cause of skin irritation.
So, like we said, if you want to save money and get a better shave this could be your best bet.
What Are The Features Of The Parker 22R Butterfly Razor?
Like most Parker safety razors, the 22R has a butterfly opening head that allows for quick changing of the blades. This makes shaving a breeze.
However, some people do not like this feature. They say the blade can get twisted in the head causing to have a weird angle on your skin. You can fix this issue by simply opening and readjusting the blade, however, this is why many prefer and screw type razors like Merkur provides.
One thing you might try to resolve this issue is to tilt the razor towards one side before you close the opening. Since there is not much room for the razor to move anyway, this will allow you to use that side of the blade until it becomes dull. You can then turn the blade around and repeat.
Just make sure you go slow and use short strokes. Safety razors don’t offer the same protection as cartridge razors.
This is definitely one of the longer razors out there at 4.25 inches in length. You will enjoy this if you have bigger hands or just like more surface area to grip your razor. If you are worried about control, simply move your grip to just under the head.
The 22R has a solid brass frame giving it a nice hefty weight. This is usually preferred amongst wet shavers as the razor itself will do the work. Again, just go slow if you are new to this technique.
The texture on the handle really makes this razor stand out from most safety razors you see out there today. It has a new modern look if you like that style.
Why Would You Want A Butterfly Safety Razor?
Like we mentioned earlier, the butterfly opening on the Parker razors allow for the quick changing of blades. Most people only change blades once a week so this is not a huge deal.
However, if you have thicker hair or have to shave more frequently you may change the blades more often which will save you time in the long run.
Another advantage is just not needing to disassemble the entire razor so there are less parts to worry about.
When Should You Replace the Parker 22R?
You may not have to replace this razor for years to come. In fact, there are really only a few scenarios that would cause you to need to buy a new razor.
If the butterfly opening breaks. This is definitely a critical component of the razor so if they won’t stay closed or bend or just won’t hold the blade properly anymore, you will need to replace the razor.
Another piece that could go bad with time is the knob that opens the head. Since it works with a twisting action, wear and tear over time could cause this to loosen up.
A third scenario would be if the chrome plating chips off. This could cause the brass to become exposed and oxidize causing tarnish. However, brass takes longer to show tarnish than cheaper metals but it is definitely a possibility.
Where Should You Buy The Parker 22R?
If you are familiar with our site, you know we highly recommend Amazon when buying products online. It is usually the safest and cheapest place to buy.
They also offer free shipping on items over $50. While this product doesn’t quite hit that threshold, you can easily add on a shaving brush or some shaving cream to go with your new safety razor to qualify for the free shipping.
