Schöne is not just known for their quality shaving bowl, they also produce this fine Italian made double edge safety razor.
It is not your average safety razor that is for sure.
This open comb razor is not for rookies or those without proper technique so make sure you can handle it before you buy.

Schöne’s Italian double edge safety razor is a three-piece open comb razor with a screw-off type head.
Unlike many safety razors you will see today that are chrome plated brass this one is nickel plated with gold which gives it a classy look!
There are also some fine engravings on the head that adds even more style to the finish.
However, it has a hollow handle which doesn’t make it the heaviest razor at 2.3 ounces however the aggressive open comb will offset this.
It has a moderate length of 3.4 inches which puts it right in the middle of the pack.
Keep in mind the open comb head makes this razor very efficient at its job of removing your hair.
If you are used to closed comb razor you will mostly like require less passes with this razor. So, if you normally perform 3-4 pass you may be able to get away with just 2.
The open comb allows more hair to be cut with each pass as more of the blade is exposed.
There are several guys in the reviews that mention switching to this razor from other popular brands and not looking back.
You will see some guys say this razor is too aggressive for them but others simply state it is more efficient which is different from aggressive.
Just like any safety razor the right blade will also make a big difference in your shave. If you have thicker beard hair you may opt for a sharper blade or if you have sensitive skin you may want something a little smoother like a Derby Extra.
This should not be as aggressive as others like the Muhle R41, however, it will be more than a mild safety razor.
As for the complaints, there are not many. Some guys didn’t feel like the gold plating looked as nice in person as it does in the pictures and one other said it wasn’t aggressive enough.
Since the teeth have gaps of space it sort of acts like a funnel pushing the hair into the blade encouraging more to be cut with each pass.
Some guys even recommend open comb heads for those with sensitive skin. If you can find the right blade this makes sense if you think about it.
The risk for irritation comes from when you have to perform multiple passes and apply pressure.
Well since these heads can cut your hair in less passes and often require almost no pressure, it should be a win-win situation, right?
If you are looking for an even more efficient shave have a look at a slant razor.

So, overall this is a moderately price razor that should give you an efficient shave. The Schöne Italian double edge safety razor won’t be the most aggressive open comb out there but it can hold its own.
Of course, you won’t truly know how it works for you until you try it since every beard and skin type are different.
