When shopping for a great electric razor, foil or rotary, there are some basic elements or features to look for.
Power. This is one of the most important features of an electric razor. You don’t want to spend all day shaving especially if it takes you longer to shave with an electric shaver than a safety razor, then why would you buy one? Try to look for razors with at least 10,000 cycles per minute. As you look at more expensive shavers this number will increase.
If you have a thicker or heavier beard you may have trouble finding a razor powerful enough to get the job done under $100.
Maintenance. This is another important feature. Try to look at how often you might need to replace the head on your shaver. Some might go two years and others may only go one year. OF course this will vary from person to person as well depending on the thickness of your beard and the frequency of use.
Obviously if you have to shave every day with a thick beard you will have to replace your heads faster. If this is the case you should look and see how much the replacements costs. This could add up over time.
Most companies recommend to replace the heads on your shavers every 12 months or so but you may be able to stretch this out to 18 months depending on usage.
Foil vs. Rotary. You may have a preference or you may not. Usually the rotary electric shavers will perform around the contours of your face better than the foil shavers. It also said the foil shavers will get a little closer of a cut.
So, there is some give and take here but again, the preference will depend on the person. If you have sharp jaw lines or a prominent chin, maybe you should opt for a rotary.
Or if you want the closest shave possible maybe you should get a foil.
Either way both types will come with different types of lifting technologies that help raise your hair to give you the closest shave possible. Do your research and you will be able to make an informed decision.
Special Features for Sensitive Skin. Not all razors have specific features aimed to alleviate irritation if you have sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin you will want to look for these features.
Some have special surfaces that they place on the heads to help reduce friction. Other razors have different speed settings to help eliminate redness or razor bumps.
From the many reviews we have done there are several features that are pretty standard these days or don’t vary much from shaver to shaver. One is the batteries. Sure one might give you 50 minutes of shaving after a full charge and another might only give you 45…so what?
Do you really care about 5 minutes?
LED displays. Pretty much any electric razor will at minimum have a display that will tell you when the battery is low. Which if you think about it, is pretty much all you need. Some of the more expensive shavers will have full displays that might give you a battery percentage, when to clean or even when to replace the head.
Wet/Dry shaving. This is also pretty standard these days. Even the electric razors under $100 are mostly capable of wet/dry shaving. So this is not really a feature you need to seek out as most of them have it included. However it is nice to know you can hop in the shower or use a shaving cream!
There are a handful of these electric shavers under $100 that do not offer wet & dry shaving so be sure to look at that if you think you want this feature. Even if you don’t think you will use it it makes cleaning easier and you never know, you may change your mind one day!
Trimmer. When you are looking at electric shavers under $100 not all of them come with a mustache trimmer. Some of them are sold as attachments so if this is important to you then definitely make sure the shaver you like comes with this.

It comes with all your basic standard features but boast a powerful motor with over 13,000 cycles per minute!
The main feature that we like is that each of the 3 nanotech blades have their own suspension. This allows the blades to stay close to your skin even around the contours of your neck, chin and jawline. Panasonic really stepped up their game with this feature.
It also has a pretty nice LED display for being just under $100.

A close runner up is the Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 5500 WET & DRY, S5370/86. Even though this rotary shaver doesn’t quite pack the same punch it is still well worth the $94 price tag.

The main feature we love is its turbo mode! The turbo mode gives you a 10% boost in power so you can finish your shave even fast. Or this is helpful if you have a heavy beard.
It is also easy to clean and comes with a precision trimmer. Two little added bonuses for the price point.
This one didn’t get as high a rating on Amazon but it still has over 300 reviews which is a nice sample size. You can read them for yourself.
Here is another top Philips candidate. The main reason we didn’t list this one at number two is it doesn’t come with a trimmer like the 5500 model.

This feature uses two different slots that help give you the closest shave. One cuts your normal hairs and the other, smaller hole, lifts the remaining stubble to give you a cut below the skin level.
It also has a better shaving surface with its SkinGlide technology which will help those of you with sensitive skin out there.
The Shaver 6100 boasts a nice 4.2/5 stars on Amazon with over 1,500 reviews! It might take you a while to get through them all but have a look for yourself.
This Panasonic Arc4 is slightly less than Arc3 above but it has more than twice the reviews on Amazon and a slightly higher rating at 4.4/5 stars!

It has nearly all the features as the LT41 with just two minor differences. The first is that the motor is slightly less powerful with only 13,000 cuts per minute instead of 14,000. You shouldn’t really notice this all that much but if you have a thicker beard or more sensitive skin you may want to opt for the LT41.
The other minor difference is the LED display only has a 5 stage power display while the LT41 has 10 stages. Again not a big deal and this is one of those ‘bells and whistle’ type feature that doesn’t really matter a whole lot. With 5 minutes worth of charging you can get a full shave anyway.
It is almost like Panasonic made the LT41 after this model realizing they can make it better for pretty much the same price as there is only a $1 difference on Amazon.
This razor does have a slightly higher rating but on many less reviews.
