How To Use Beard Oil The Right Way

If you are growing out any length of beard, you may quickly realize that beard itch or wiry beard hairs come with it. You can easily treat these conditions with a beard oil. In this review we are going to teach you how to use beard oil so you get the most out of whichever one you decide to buy.

You could also try beard balms, butters or even beard shampoos.

What Is Beard Oil?

Beard oil is a pretty generic term and over the last several years its popularity has grown exponentially.

You can now find several manufacturers of beard oil all claiming to be the best.

Beard oil is usually a combination of several plants based oils along with essential oils to add a nice scent. Some of the possible oils usually include:

  • jojoba oil
  • argan oil
  • coconut oil
  • grapeseed oil
  • hemp seed oil

Of course, if you don’t like getting fancy you could simply buy any of these oils by themselves and use it to treat your beard. They all have different concentrations of fatty acids that provide different nourishment for your beard and skin.

That is why most manufacturers will use some combination of all of them or just a couple of them.

It is important to treat your beard with a beard oil so that your hair can maintain a healthy growth. As it gets longer, your body’s natural oils can no longer reach the entire length of the hair.

This can cause the hair to become dry and brittle which allows them to break faster. The beard oil will actually not only condition the hair itself but get absorbed by the skin into the hair follicle so the hair is healthy at the base.

This is especially important if you are in a tough environment that is dry or windy. The beard oil will also help smooth out your beard and make it easier to maintain.

Not to mention your lady will love how soft it is!

As you begin to treat your beard with oil for a few weeks it will also start looking healthier and may even have a little shine to it.

How To Use Beard Oil – Best Time To Apply

When you go to apply your beard oil, it is usually best to do this after a shower. However, you want to make sure your beard is dry as oil and water do not mix.

If your beard or skin is too wet it may look away the oil before I can become absorbed.

When you take a hot shower, your skin actually absorbs some water making your pores a little bit bigger. This allows them to absorb more oil into the skin.

As your skin absorbs oil, it can get into your hair follicles providing the necessary nourishment for healthy beard growth.

Usually once a day is enough treatment with beard oil however, if you have a particularly long beard, you may consider doing it twice a day.

How To Use Beard Oil Before Bed?

Using a beard oil before bed is a matter of personal preference. If you decide to do it before bed, just make sure you give yourself enough time for the beard oil to be absorbed before going to bed.

Try not to apply your beard oil in immediately hop into the bed as it may come off on your sheets or pillow ruining your bedding as well as defeating the purpose of applying it to your beard since it is not going to be absorbed into your skin.

If you only like to shower at night, them maybe you could just simply wash your beard in the sink in the morning before you fly your beard oil.

Try not to use a regular hair shampoo for your beard as it can strip away a lot of your body’s natural oil.

How To Use Beard Oil?

Applying beard oil is pretty straightforward. Most oils come with an eyedropper so you can just pull out what you need.

Start with two or three drops in the palm of your hand and rub them together for a few seconds. As the oil heats up, it will be easier to spread onto your beard.

Start at the base so that you make sure you get your skin covered first. Then work the oil down to the ends of your beard hair.

You can always add more as needed so that is why we recommend to just start with a few drops as it spreads pretty far.

After your beard seems like it is well coated with oil, you could then use a brush or comb to help spread it even further.

Brushing your beard regularly also help spread your body’s natural oil throughout the day.

How To Use Beard Oil If You Have A Short Beard

If you have a short beard, them I will just be that much easier to apply beard oil! Usually, anything more than stubble or about a half inch we recommend using a beard oil.

With shorter stubble, your body can usually handle enough oil production. However, as you get over a half-inch you may only need one or two drops to cut your beard.

It will still be worth treating as you may have itchy skin even at this length plus your beard will just look that much better.

In the end your beard and your skin will thank you.
