If you are looking for a better shave, the Parker SR1 Shavette could be a great option if you are willing to have a little patience and learn how to use it properly.
In this Parker SR1 review, we will take a closer look at what it has to offer, the good and the bad.
Who Is Parker?
Parker has been producing high quality razors for over 40 years, since 1973!
You may have seen our other posts about their DE safety razors.
However, for those of you looking for even more control this straight razor is an affordable option that will give you a quality shave.
What Is The Parker SR1 All About?
This is a nice step up from some of the more economical straight razors out there but it is still far less expensive that a fixed blade straight razor.
The blade arm is made of a quality stainless steel which will help reduce corrosion.
You should still keep it clean and dry when not in use.
The blade holder has rounded edges leading up to the blade which will help reduce the risk of cuts.
Like we mentioned, there is a bit of a learning curve if you are switching from an electric shaver or even a safety razor.
The technique and angle is slightly different so you will want to take your time in front of a mirror in the beginning.
It has a snap and lock blade holder that makes changing the blades simple, safe and easy.
This kit on Amazon also come with 5 Super Shark Stainless blades which might give you a couple weeks’ worth of shaves depending on your beard type.
However, you can easily snap any double edge safety razor in half to fit into this razor.
You will see many reviews of the SR1 from beginners who love and are glad they made the switch.
Many of them mention cuts though. You can help reduce these by making sure you watch several videos online to get an idea of what you should be doing.
Another thing you can do is make sure face is well lubricated.
Just like you would for a safety razor, take a hot shower and wash your face.
Then apply a few drops of shaving oil and allow it to soak into your beard for a minute two.
It would also be a good idea to apply your shaving cream with a shaving brush.
The brush exfoliates your skin and helps lift your beard hairs up making them easier to cut.
It seems some customers may have received bad or defective products which is typical for anything you buy on Amazon.
Others may have had two high of expectations. While it is step from razors with plastic handles, it is still about a $20 razor.
While Parker does make quality razors this would still be considered an entry level razor.
Of course, some other negative comments are those who may have cut themselves and are new to shaving with a straight edge.
When Should You Buy Replacement Blades?
You should probably buy replacement blades when you buy the razor.
There are many different brands of blades with different levels of sharpness or smoothness that you may need to try a few out before you find some that work with your beard and skin.
There are several variety packs that are relatively cheap and come with 100 blades which could be almost two years’ worth of shaving for some guys.
Why Switch To Wet Shaving?
Three reasons to switch to wet shaving:
- Save money
- Better shave
- Less irritation
As mentioned above in this Parker SR1 review, the razor itself is not all that expensive but where you will really save money is in the blade refills.
Instead of paying $15-20 a month with cartridges, you can buy a 100 pack of double edge blades which is 200 singles for this shavette.
With each blade giving you 3-5 shaves, you do the math.
You are also less likely to your beard hair below the skin surface as you have much more control with these types of razors.
This will offer a more comfortable shave with less irritation.
Where Should You Buy The Parker SR1 Razor?
Amazon normally has the best prices when shopping online.
You also get to read many customer reviews since it tends to be so popular.
This razor currently has over 1,300 reviews and a 4.1-star rating.
Many of the reviews are short but there are several that you should find very helpful.
Don’t forget you can also get free shipping on orders over $35 if you decide to add on some blades or extras.

The Parker SR1 Shavette Razor looks just like the razor my barber uses on me. When ever I get a shave at the barber shop I know I’m getting the closest shave you can get. There is still no better way to shave than with a straight razor. Thanks for the review, I going to buy the Parker SR1 Shavette Razor today. Why not get a barber shop shave at home.
Thanks again

Great information in this review. The Parker SR1 Shavette caught my eye as it looks retro and would be a nice present for my husband. He doesn’t like using electronic razors and would like to learn how to shave with a straight edged razor. This one sounds like it could be a good starter razor for him to try.

Hey Jennie,
You can’t beat the price on this straight razor which makes it a great starter razor. If your husband decides he likes it he can always upgrade to a nicer razor.
Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for outlining the reviews! It’s nice to have an article like this that I can look at and have all the information in one place. I usually use an electric razor, but I’ve always wanted to switch to a razor like this for a more precise and clean cut. I’ll definitely look into this one.
