Description of Shaveology Silver Tip Badger Hair Shaving Brush and Stand

Well this is one of the only brushes we have reviewed with a 90-day guarantee . It is nice to know when a company stands behind their product, it gives you a sense of safety when you make a purchase. Shaveology is offering a silver tip badger hair brush and stand for what many companies are just offering the brush.

This brush may not have the highest reviews on Amazon but it sure does pack a lot of bang for your buck. Remember, silvertip badger hair is the highest quality compared to other brushes that might only use pure or best badger hair, which are lower grades.

Silvertip hairs are softer and hold more water that will make it easier to transfer the lather to your face. Also, silvertip brushes can last up to 10 years with proper care. That is probably why they give you the stand for that price, so you can properly hang your brush out to dry. It also helps soften and lift your facial hair while gently exfoliating your skin, all important steps in your pre-shave routine.

Just like with any badger brush, you will lose a few hairs during the break in period. This is completely normal but after the loose hairs work themselves out it should not shed any further. Also, it may have a nice badger odor as well. You can help remove this by giving it a few washes with some soap or shampoo before your first use to help remove this smell.

The stand is made from stainless steel with a chrome finish that will look great in your bathroom. It also has a spot to hold your safety razor and many other razors as well. There are even many comments that talk about the stand, not just the brush. It has a heavy bottom which will help it stand upright and not tip over.

Cons

It appears they were having issues with the manufacturing a little while ago as they were a few complaints of the knot falling of the handle. While you can find this problem with almost any brush, especially if you drop it, however, there were a handful of these incidents mentioned in the reviews.

Like we mentioned earlier, Shaveology does stand behind their product and will absolutely replace any defective products. They have since re-designed their silvertip brush to help eliminate this issue.

About Shaveology

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Shaveology it is a family owned and operated company founded by two regular guys, Adam & Kenny. They also use a portion of their profits to help raise awareness for veterans through a program called Soldier’s Angels.

This is just a great story, two guys living the American dream. They got together because of their passion for wet shaving and just wanted to offer a better way of doing that. Founded in just 2014 it seems like they have been able to achieve this in just a few short years.

I actually saw this brush on Amazon when I was Christmas shopping. I almost bought one for my son but then I realized he would not use it.
I remember my day shaving and using a brush like this one. However, neither my husband nor my son uses a brush.
They both just use the shave cream just like that on their face, then shave.

Hey Cynthia, using a brush actually has many benefits and if your husband and/or son are using the aerosol shaving cream cans there can be a lot of chemicals in it. The shaving brush can actually exfoliate your skin as well as help lift the hairs up off the skin so you get a more efficient shave.

Excellent idea for my husband’s next birthday, Jeremy. But it is also a very good way to introduce my son, in only a couple of years time I reckon, to wet shaving.
Can you advise however how it does compare price wise to similar products on the market?
    Thank you.

      Hi Giulia,

Yes this Shaveology brush would make a great birthday gift or be a good way to introduce you son to wet shaving. Wet shaving can be much cheaper in the long run vs. buying disposable safety razors. The actual blades are very cheap and you may be spending $15-20 a month with disposables.

      I hope that helps!

I represent part of the millions of american men who have to shave daily for their job. It sucks so much!! I have problems with razor burns and sometimes my skin is just really dry. After reading your review it seems like this might help me out a bit. I’ve used everything from a single blade razor, 5 bladed razors, electric razors, and probably 20 different brands of shaving cream. I guess all that’s left is to try out a brush!

Hey Nick, yes a brush might help. It can exfoliate your skin to remove all of those dead skin cells which should help whatever razor you decide to use glide easier over your skin and hopefully reduce the irritation you are experiencing.

I have written about some other tips in the post as well. Let me know if you decide to try a brush and how it works.

I wish I found this before I bought my dad’s Christmas gift. Not only does this shaving brush look quality it also looks luxurious and at the price its going for I think is very good value for money.

If there is a replacement offer then I think its worth giving it a try should anything go wrong then at least that’s peace of mind.

    Thanks

You are right Lou, the Shaveology shaving brush would make an excellent Christmas gift. They do offer a 90 day guarantee so that would give you enough time to use it a lot to get a feel for it and see if you would like to continue using it or not. However, I think you will find that you will be more than satisfied.

    Hi there,

I glad I found this site because I have always wanted one of these kinds of stands and brushes.

I do have a question or to if you don’t mind.

About how long does one of these brushes last?

Also, the bristles on the applicator, What exactly are they made of?

Sorry if I missed this information in your review but my eyes aren’t what they used to be.

    Thank you for your help!

      Hi Jason,

Great question! The brush is made of silvertip badger hair which is the highest grade of badger hair you can purchase. It is softer than the lower grades and will hold more lather, making it easier to start your shave.

It is hard to say how long it will last. It really depends on how frequently you use it and how aggressive you are with it. I think it would be safe to say it should last a couple years though.

      Hope that helps!

It is a nice review. I have never used a brush before. Usually, I use my finger to get some shaving cream and put on my face. It is hard to cover my face with cream evenly by using a finger. Therefore, I am searching for a shaving brush. This brush is really good in looking. It looks like an art. I think I am going to buy one from amazon. But then, I come up with a silly problem. Can I use my usual shaving cream? Will it hurt the brush?

      Hi Billy,

I know what you mean about using your hands to apply the shaving cream. You can use this if you like but you may want to look into some more natural shaving soaps or creams.

They don’t have as many chemicals as the typical aerosol cans do.

Let me know how the brush works for you if you decide to get one!

This sure brings back memories of my dad shaving back in the day. He used a brush and lathered up to use a safety razor. Over the years I have gone away from the aerosol cans and now just use a high quality shave cream. I am worth it! lol

I am sure one of these days I will buy a brush and start lathering up like my dad.

Hi Glen, it sounds like your dad was on to something! That seems to be the trend right now, consumers moving away from aerosol cans and back into the safety razors with shaving brushes and shaving soaps.

If you decide to get a brush, please let me know which one you get and how you like it!

I really like the look of the shaving brush and stand. The stainless steel stand not only holds your brush and razor, it looks great, too.

It’s amazing a silver tipped badger hair brush can last up to ten years. Fixing the knot issue with the handle should really improve the review score for the brush. If that one problem is solved, you could get a lot of use out of a really nice brush.

You sure can get plenty of years out of this brush depending on how often you use it and how aggressive you use it. Their customers have been much happier since they have re-designed the brush to fix the issues it had before. It is very affordable for those just starting out wet shaving.

    Hello Jeremy,

About Shaveology in general, I haven’t seen and heard before but now I know as it was just established back a couple of years. I see that this company eventually will grow and will be established in few years time because the passion those brothers have. Now, about the product, I think all the steps and even minor details like skins being exfoliated gently are accounted here from pre-shave to post-shave. As I mentioned, these has to be all down to experience and passion.

Shave brushes are considered to be an old school way of shaving. I remember that I have used them years ago but I do not use them anymore. Can you tell me what are the advantages of shaving with brush versus without one? Also is the shave brush suitable for head shaving or it would be better not to mix the shaving of your face and head? Any other brands you could recommend? Thank you in advance.

Hey Sam, you are right, shaving brushes used to be considered and old school way of shaving but have recently re-gained popularity due to the rise in wet shaving. Shaving brushes are used to apply more natural shaving soaps or creams than what you find in most aerosol cans. Besides that the brush will exfoliate your skin and help lift your beard hairs up so they are easier to cut.

Besides Shaveology, check out my post here about my top 5 recommendations.
