Shaving With Coconut Oil, Suprisingly Effective

February 13, 2018 by AdminLeave a Comment

Have you ever heard of shaving with coconut oil? Well, if you haven’t, you should give it a try.

It is a completely natural way to provide lubrication and condition your skin at the same time. Keep reading to see if it could be right for you.

What Is Coconut Oil?

coconut oil 2Coconut oil (also alluded to as copra oil) is a comestible oil mined from the nut or meat of matured coconuts garnered from the coconut palm.

Coconut oil has been consumed in tropical regions for years. Published research on natives and their diets rich in coconut oil consumption exhibited that these individuals are generally healthier and do not suffer from lots of the common complications.

Coconut oil has many applications. Due to its saturated fat content, it’s slow to oxidize and, as a result, resistant to Rancidification, implying that it can last for as long as six months without spoiling.

Coconut oil can be extracted using two main approaches:

Dry process

Dry processing is whereby the meat is mined from the coconut shell and dried by the use of kilns, sunlight, or fire to create Copra. The Copra is then dissolved or pressed using solvents, producing a high protein (high-fiber mash) and the coconut oil.

The high fiber mash is unfit for human consumption, so it’s instead fed to ruminants.

Wet Process

This wet approach utilizes raw coconuts instead of dried up Copra, and the protein assimilated in the coconut produces an emulsion of water and oil.

The biggest challenge when using this approach is breaking down the emulsion to extract the oil.

In the past, this was accomplished by means of prolonged boiling, though this process proved to be uneconomical and even worse, the oil produced was discolored.

The modern technique uses centrifuges and pre-treaments such as steam distillation, shock waves, electrolysis, enzymes, salts, acids, heat, cold, or a combination of some of them.

This wet approach is less viable compared to the dry approach because of a 15% lower yield, so the recommended approach is “Dry Processing.”

Shaving With It Instead Of Shaving Cream

Pre-shave coconut oil usually functions as a lubricant but then without all the “retro pomp.” A couple of drops from a light, decent, and lubricating coconut oil lifts and softens the hair, moisturizing the skin deep enough for an easy and efficient shave.

You are recommended to apply coconut oil after taking a shower because at that time your pores are wide open from the warm shower.

Even more, you are advised to leave your face slightly wet as this will aid in spreading the coconut oil over your skin. A small portion goes a long way so start with a few drops of coconut oil (3 to 4) and then rub it into your beard using your hands. You can also massage it in circles.

Once you are done applying it to your beard, allow it to settle for a few minutes for optimal benefits.

Now shave your beard as desired and apply a couple more drops of the oil to hydrate your skin. This will avert dry skin and minimize irritation.

A Solid Replacement

Utilizing coconut oil as your shaving cream is another approach to help you diminish toxins inside your body.

The skin happens to be your body’s largest organ. It absorbs most of the products that we smear on our bodies.

If you desire to enhance your well-being, then eating clean is just not enough. You need to think of what ingredients are utilized in the products that come in contact with your skin. From your moisturizer to your deodorant to your shaving cream.

Men tend to benefit the most from using coconut oil as their shaving cream. Once the coconut oil moisturizes the skin, it diminishes your chances of attaining cuts, nicks, as well as razor burns.

Shaving using clear coconut oil might seem absurd at first but it, in fact, makes it easier to see what you are shaving.

Using The Oil As An After Shave

Most men around the world use after-shave lotions. Most of these lotions are notoriously occupied by dyes, alcohol, chemicals, and other harmful and even cancer-causing ingredients.

What’s the safe alternative to these unhealthy and expensive products? The answer to this question is coconut oil.

This natural and nourishing product soaks into the skin ultimately providing an excellent alternative to commercial after-shave products.

Obviously, it is not just men who can benefit from utilizing coconut oil as an after shave. Ladies actually shave more often compared to men, and they regularly shave more sensitive areas, such as the underarm area.

Coconut oil smeared after a shave soothes, smooths, and moisturizes the skin to prevent itching. Just apply 2 to 3 drops of coconut oil after shaving. You’ll wish you started using the product years ago.

Conclusion

Hopefully by now you can see why shaving with wonderful, natural ingredient is not such a crazy idea after all.

Don’t knock it before you try it. What do you have to lose? If you don’t like it you can always use the coconut oil to cook with!
